Unit 2 Activity 1: Digital Manipulation

  • One of the main reasons companies/magazines manipulate these photos is that, it is more appealing to the public. It makes them want to be like the people on the covers of these magazines.

                               faith

Faith Hill on the July 2007 cover of Redbook

  • This photo has been manipulated in Photoshop
  • It was photoshopped so that the lady on the cover can look paler and thinner than what she really is in reality.

Capture

         kate

Kate Couric in a promotion at CBS Evening News

  • This photo has not been manipulated in Photoshop

oj-1                           oj

OJ Simpson in 2007’s Time Magazine

  • This photo has been manipulated in Photoshop
  • The image has been photoshopped because it has been darkened compared to the original picture to look more terrifying.

 oprah

Oprah Winfrey on the cover of TV Guide Magazine

  • This photo has been manipulated in Photoshop
  • It is obvious because Oprah’s head looks as if it has been attached to a different body, which it was.

 jen

Jennifer Aniston on the cover of Star Magazine

  • This photo has been manipulated in Photoshop
  • It has been photoshopped because the people who have published the magazine erased a few of the objects she was holding and the print on the paper she was carrying.

        lebanon

             smoke1

Adnan Hajj Photographs (the aftermath of an IDF attack on Beirut)

  • This image has been clearly manipulated in Photoshop
  • It is obvious that the image was photoshopped because the smoke coming out from the building in the original picture has been badly placed several times on the manipulated picture as to look like more smoke was coming out of the place than in actual reality.

ad

Ad in a clothing store called “Ann Taylor”’s website in 2010

  • This image was clearly manipulated in Photoshop
  • It is obvious that this image was photoshopped just by looking at the original picture. The model’s already slim waist was manipulated to look even slimmer, and the same was done to the model’s stomach, legs, face and arms.

elle                                                            Elle Magazine

  • This image is photoshopped
  • This image has been manipulated in Photoshop and you can easily say so just by looking at the model to the right of the picture. The model’s neck has been stretched out so ridiculously long that is does not look natural.
